IntelliView launches second generation self-contained ruggedized video surveillance solution

Press Release

Calgary-based IntelliView Technologies Inc., a leading manufacturer of smart video surveillance solutions for commercial and industrial applications, has launched the next generation of ruggedized smart digital video recorder (SmrtDVR).

IntelliView has been working closely with the oil and gas industry to create a unique video surveillance product that can withstand some of the most extreme operating conditions in the world. The need for ruggedized solutions continues to rise as regulatory requirements continue to increase for the oil and gas industry in the wake of increasing acts of trespassing, vandalism, theft, eco-terrorism as well as threats of terrorism.

“We have been working with the oil and gas industry since 2006 to specifically engineer a solution that meet their extreme needs, says Dr. Wael Badawy, IntelliView CEO. “We are proud to announce the second generation is now being deployed. This is the second generation of a solution that is self-contained and able to operate in extreme conditions to provide the oil and gas industry with 24/7 visual access to their operations anywhere in the world.”

IntelliView’s system is unique since it contains patented and proprietary analytics that turn passive cameras into video sensors. The SmrtDVR has been engineered to sit at the site, recording the video images and then analyzing them to determine if there is an event occurring that requires an alarm. The object detection analytics, known as Multi Object Flow Extraction Technology, is a patented process that has been the core of the research and development of the IntelliView solution.

The DVR comes with a standard package of analytics including:

  • Trip Wire / Trip Wire One Direction
  • Intersect Region
  • Object Left Behind / Object Taken Away
  • Motion Inside Region
  • Loitering
  • Object Larger Than / Smaller Than
  • Object Count / Object Time Count
  • Coupling
  • Camera Health Check

Customized analytics have also been created and can be obtained through software licensing. These include:

  • Slip and Fall Detection (Man Down)
  • Flow Management
  • Audio and Sound Classification
  • Camera Tampering Detection
  • Target Lock and Track
  • Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR)

The analytics in the SmrtDVR also include a patented environmental filter that significantly reduces false alarms created by shadows, glare, rain and snow. The alerts are user-defined and can be changed with a click of the mouse. The plug and play solution can utilize any type of camera from analog to thermal. It sends real-time incident alerts once a rule has been violated through cellular, satellite, radio, power lines or SCADA. If communications go down, the SmrtDVR continues to record the events and this video can be remotely retrieved when communications are re-established. Since it sits at the site, it uses minimal power and can be powered using wind, solar or fuel cells.

The SmrtDVR is a powerful video server that can also integrate other devices on site to provide an integrated site management solution. These options include access control with visual confirmation of each use, digital I/O controller to turn on lights and sirens on site, radar detector to monitor incoming roads as well as sensor inputs to provide back-up notification for incidents such as H2S alerts.

The SmrtDVR uses state-of-the-art H.264 video recording technology to provide the highest quality resolution for event notification that is sent in a JPEG or an MPEG format. An IntelliView application, known as Merris, enables clients to receive and respond to alerts as well as to connect to live footage at the site through a BlackBerry. The format also provides strong visual records for post event analysis and investigation. It has been designed for harsh environments and to meet the regulatory requirements outlined by the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The rugged SmrtDVR has been designed to operate in extreme conditions from -50 degrees C to plus 50 degrees C.

The SmrtDVR is the heart of IntelliView’s unique video surveillance solution. When used in conjunction with IntelliView’s patented video management solution known as Smart Camera Station, customers are able to access centralized live viewing and remote camera control enabling them to remotely zoom in on an incident. Another software application known as SmrtSummary, provides a visual slice (horizontal or vertical) of the recorded video. Generally three hours are spent reviewing one hour of video content to isolate and event, but this visual pattern helps operators quickly find the changing patterns in the images to zero in on the footage they need. This comprehensive video surveillance solution provides video data archiving as well as report generation for ERCB, CSA and FERC and U.S. Homeland Security compliance. It also meets other industry standards including the American Petroleum Institute (API) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for the oil and gas industry.

The IntelliView Second Generation Ruggedized Total Video Surveillance Solution (known as Tri-Site View) includes:

  • A standard suite of video analytics for real-time event notification
  • Environmental filters
  • CCTV cameras
  • 4 Channel – 16 Channel SmrtDVR small form factor or enterprise solution
  • 24/7 video monitoring through web based access or multiple site monitoring through Smart Camera Station
  • Technical support for preferred installers
  • Customer Training, Customer Support and Warranty

The Tri-Site View can also enhance site surveillance in other industries including: Utility, Construction, Transportation, Railway, Manufacturing, Fuel Distribution, Military, Aviation, Law Enforcement and Health Care.
